Please Say Yes!

If you're anything like I am, you can hardly wait to get to the polls and cast your vote for the next president of the United States. In fact, I'm so anxious to have a voice in this election, I'm going to take advantage of early voting this year.

But before I cast my vote for the next president, I'm going to skip down to the section on my ballot where the amendments are located and vote "yes" for the marriage amendment that is up for a vote here in Florida. This piece of legislation is critical because it will provide another layer of protection for traditional marriage.

Florida is one of three states that have marriage amendments included in their ballots this year. Unlike the amendments in Arizona and California, our amendment must receive 60 percent of the vote to become law.

I realize many of you may not know much about this amendment, so I went to www.yes2marriage.org and got some information so you can better understand why this issue is critically important.

According to the Web site, Amendment 2 is "a proposed amendment to the Florida Constitution that will protect the definition of marriage in Florida between one man and one woman. The amendment will prohibit polygamy, group marriage and same-sex marriage from becoming legal in Florida."

It is important to preserve marriage because it was instituted by God as the foundation of the family.

I know this has been a contentious election season. Christians and unbelievers alike are worried about everything from the economy to the war in Iraq to the housing crisis. But those issues must not distract us from taking a stand to defend marriage whenever we can. The institution of marriage will remain threatened if we do nothing to protect it.

If your state has not already voted on the definition of marriage, it is only a matter of time before you will be confronted with the issue. So tell every Floridian you know to say yes to traditional marriage, and cast his or her vote for Amendment 2.

Right on, Valerie! It is critical for us as a nation to do everything we can to preserve God's design for marriage as between one man and one woman. If we don't pass this legislation now, it is only a matter a time before we will experience an entire breakdown of the moral fabric of our society. I live in Arizona, and will definitely be voting YES! on Prop. 102. Thank you for your article and God bless you.

My goal is to be a woman of faith who can take such things in stride with Him. But when I'm losing that stride, I've found the best thing I can do is honestly take these feelings to God where they can be traded for His perspective and His comforting assurance.

Though God does not always change my circumstances the way I want Him to, He can and does change my perspective on those circumstances -- enabling me to endure them.

God listens when we complain about injustice. He understands when we feel shortchanged or opposed. Read through the gospel accounts of Jesus' life and you'll be reminded of just how much Jesus can relate to undeserved opposition!

Be honest before God in prayer today. While maintaining a holy respect for Him and thanksgiving for His saving grace, pour out the good, the bad and the ugly of your feelings. As Habakkuk, Job and others discovered, God can handle our intense emotions and questions. He may not explains Himself fully to us -- perhaps because we can't fully understand -- but He will flood us with His love when we come humbly and honestly before Him and pour out our heart.

Dear Lord, it is often hard for me to deal graciously with the difficult situations in my life. Help me to see them through Your eyes. Help me to endure, with grace, all that You allow into my life. Fill me with Your peace and love today. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

How can someone support a candidate that won't specify his religion or find a new church to go to until AFTER the elections are over? Sounds un-peaceful to me and I am not feeling led. I want to make sure our Christianity isn't jepardized by putting the wrong person God didn't intend on putting in office and for me, I vote for LIFE not CHOICE. As for the marriage amendment, we had that vote a few years ago in my state and I voted yes in order to protect what God had intended.

Hello, my name is Barbara Fisher, I recently suffered a Stroke, The Lord didn't have to let me live, Thank God he did. We as Christians have come too far from the Word of God. It is still true. 2 of the same sex cannot multiply. A judgement day is coming for each of us.

I'm of the opinion that there will always be a race issue. However,
its sad when its Christians that are divided because race. Whether we accept it or not, we all sprang from Adam and Eve. God sees us as one but we draw lines. I attended a church years ago and requested prayer and do you know what happened? A white minister called for a black minister to come and pray for me. Can you believe it? God is waiting for us to get it right people. I just came out of our youth revival and the theme was, The Missing Ingredient. Which was Jesus. Jesus makes the different my friends. If we as Christians are divided because of race, what does the world see when they view us? We're supposed to light the way to Jesus. However, if we are divided because of race than perhaps all we're showing is that we're no different than the world. That's something to think about in this last days and times.

I would recommend everyone read the most recent 'Somebody Say Amen' column about 'Drawing The Line'. I live in a US territory (Virgin Islands) and cannot vote for my President - but the outcome will certainly impact our lives here! God help us! and God Bless America!

Today, I was so blessed by reading this message and the messages of those who wrote comments to it. What is so needed during difficult times of stress as this election is producing, is the sound encouraging word of God, which comes from His own. After a fretful time of carrying too much concern, and the anxiety it produced, I finally started talking to God...and I realized yes, this is real prayer...just talking to Him. I poured out my feelings, and asked Him to give me some kind of answer. I had to just lay down and rest my mind and emotions. Then later I read what someone said about her goal in being a woman of faith...I knew, this was his purpose for me too...and I now can embrace His perspective and comforting assurance once again. I will pass this valuable encouragement unto other women I know who are needing the same comfort He offers by His Unfailing Love.
